A MODERN KITCHEN IN A TRADITIONAL BOSTON BROWNSTONE.
The clients are the principals of a prominent Boston architectural firm. They live in an elegant South End brownstone where they enjoy cooking and entertaining.
Located on the home’s garden level, the floor-through space includes windows at both front and back, allowing for abundant natural light. But the room’s low ceilings posed a challenge: maintaining the feeling of lightness and space while providing all of the elements of a professional kitchen.
The solution—two functional islands allowing for preparation, cooking, dining, and storage, supported by pantry units containing refrigerator, oven, and additional storage space. Well-placed support legs on the island units give a weightless, floating effect, preserving the light and airy feeling of the room. |
