BOSTON [July 24, 2006] — From Thursday, July 27 until Monday, August 7, the public is invited to view entries in the first annual Montage/Arclinea Contemporary Design Scholarship Competition. Entries demonstrate innovative approaches for incorporating contemporary design within Boston’s traditional, historic architecture from local architecture and design students.
Entries will be on display during regular business hours at both Arclinea Boston and Montage, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday- Saturday. The Montage showroom is also open on Sundays from noon - 5 p.m.
Entries were due Friday, July 21 and will be judged by a panel of Boston’s best architects and designers, with the top three winning prizes of $5,00, $3,000, and $2,000 respectively. Winners will be announced at a reception on Tuesday, August 8.
All entrants in the scholarship competition were asked to design a contemporary kitchen/living/dining area, working from floorplans for either a traditional Back Bay brownstone or a suburban Victorian. Students were encouraged to consider the design philosophies of Italian architect Antonio Citterio, designer of kitchens for Arclinea and furniture for B&B Italia, sold at Montage.
Entries have been received from students studying at schools including Boston Architectural College, Endicott College, Mount Ida College, New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University, Northeastern University, and Rhode Island School of Design.
“These entries demonstrate creativity, innovation, and some very dynamic suggestions for how we might live better in Boston,” says Montage co-owner Chris Bates “We look forward to sharing the designs of these visionary students.”Montage is Boston’s premier contemporary home furnishings showroom.
