BOSTON [November 4, 2005] — Arclinea Boston received the Gold Award for Best Remodeling of a Kitchen Over $100,000 at the 2005 Builders Association of Greater Boston PRISM Awards, held on Thursday, October 27, at the Park Plaza Hotel.
The kitchen—known as the ‘Arlington Chef’s Dream Kitchen’—was designed by Arclinea Boston project manager Mercedes Farrando in collaboration with the Arlington-based architecture firm Feinmann Inc. Arclinea Boston and Feinmann Inc. were previously named Platinum Award and Best in Show winners for this same project at April’s first annual Boston Luxury Living Awards, sponsored by HomeWorks Sourcebook.
“It’s gratifying to see this particular project receive so much recognition—it’s a great representation of the Arclinea philosophy of kitchen design in action,” says Arclinea Boston owner Philip Guarino. “Arclinea kitchens are meticulously conceived to combine the benefits of a fully functional, professional cooking space with smart, attractive, and inviting design. Perhaps most importantly, each Arclinea kitchen is customized to meet the specific needs of the client.”
The owners of the award-winning kitchen are a well-traveled couple who enjoy entertaining. The wife studied cooking at the Cordon Bleu in London and needed a room that would allow for gourmet-level cooking while also providing a welcoming gathering space for family and friends.
Farrando met repeatedly with the clients to understand their lifestyle and cooking needs, and also consulted with the architects from Feinmann Inc. to insure that the Arclinea kitchen fit seamlessly into the larger space.
The kitchen was designed to allow intuitive movement from storage to preparation, cooking, and cleaning stations. To maximize functionality and storage space, Farrando incorporated two islands and a dramatic wall of tall units in highly reflective and durable blue solid ray—the color of the Cordon Bleu. Deep drawers allow easy—and ergonomic—access to pots and pans, and storage units are coupled with a ladder to allow easy access to items used less frequently.
Earlier this year, the homeowner explained to the Metrowest Daily News why she enjoyed the kitchen. “I walked into the Arclinea center and that was it,” she recalled.... “I just like the feeling, the emotion, that I have when I come into this kitchen. It’s such a cook’s kitchen—a true cook’s kitchen, and I’m humbled by that. Whenever we come in here and are cooking together, we discover something new about this kitchen. It’s amazing. It’s such a pleasure to cook in this kitchen.”The Builders Association of Greater Boston is a trade association affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders and Home Builders Association of Massachusetts. It was established in 1944, and has since evolved in to one of the leading trade associations in New England.
